AI-powered chatbot Bridgit offers instant support and resources for carers across the UK.

An artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot named Bridgit has been introduced to assist carers by providing a centralized platform for information and support. Developed in collaboration with the NHS, Carers UK, and Age UK, Bridgit is hosted by the Caring Together Charity and can be accessed via its website or WhatsApp.

Designed to offer instant responses, tailored advice, and direct links to relevant organizations, Bridgit aims to complement existing in-person support services. The chatbot draws from trusted UK sources, including the NHS, to ensure reliable guidance.

The initiative has received support from Peterborough City Council, with officials emphasizing the importance of embracing AI technology to enhance services. The chatbot allows users to track personal health information, list medications, and monitor well-being over time.

Local authorities, primary care networks, and voluntary organizations are piloting the tool, which is expected to improve the efficiency of care services and reduce costs while maintaining a person-centered approach.

Bridgit also securely stores encrypted user data through Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure, ensuring privacy and security.

Officials believe the digital program will help carers become more independent while alleviating pressure on formal care services.
