Apple has approached an Indian court seeking to restrain the Competition Commission of India (CCI) from demanding access to its global financial records, according to court filings. The request comes as the technology giant simultaneously challenges the legal basis of the antitrust investigation into its App Store policies.

The case marks a significant escalation in Apple’s legal confrontation with India’s antitrust regulator. The CCI has accused Apple of abusing its dominant position in the app distribution market by enforcing restrictive App Store rules that allegedly disadvantage developers and limit competition. Apple has consistently denied these allegations, arguing that its policies are designed to ensure user security, privacy, and a consistent digital ecosystem.

In its court submission, Apple contends that the regulator’s demand for worldwide financial data is disproportionate and premature, especially while the company is contesting the validity of the underlying provisions of Indian competition law applied in this case. Apple maintains that such sensitive financial disclosures could cause irreparable harm and extend beyond the scope of the investigation.

The outcome of this legal battle could have far-reaching implications for global technology companies operating in India. As one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets, India has increasingly scrutinized the practices of major tech firms, aligning itself with broader global efforts to regulate dominant digital platforms.

Legal experts note that the court’s decision may set an important precedent on the extent of investigative powers held by Indian regulators, particularly in cases involving multinational corporations. The matter is currently under judicial consideration, with further hearings expected in the coming weeks.
