Philippines-based mobile wallet giant GCash has launched its new Tap to Pay service, a contactless payment solution designed to boost convenience, security, and global usability for consumers and merchants alike.

The feature leverages Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, allowing users to make quick transactions at over 150 million Mastercard acceptance points worldwide. The launch comes through a strategic partnership with Mastercard and Alipay+, enhancing the reach of GCash’s digital payment ecosystem.

Expanding Digital Payment Options

GCash Tap to Pay complements the company’s existing QR code payment system, already accepted across 50 international markets. The addition of NFC payments aims to modernize everyday transactions for Filipinos, whether at home or abroad, while also pushing the country further toward a cashless economy.

Ant International, the operator of Alipay+, noted that GCash is one of the first partners to adopt its NFC global payment capability, helping bridge interoperability between ewallets and traditional card networks.

Security at the Core

With fraud prevention a key focus, the service incorporates advanced authentication and encryption standards to ensure safe, reliable transactions for users.

Strategic Growth Ahead of IPO

The rollout follows GCash parent company Globe Fintech Innovations’ stock split and increase in authorized common shares, a move widely seen as preparation for a potential initial public offering (IPO).

In recent months, GCash has also forged partnerships with the Philippine Statistics Authority and Cebuana Lhuillier Bank, underscoring its role as a key player in advancing financial inclusion across the country.

By combining local accessibility with global acceptance, GCash Tap to Pay is set to further solidify its status as the leading digital wallet in the Philippines while opening new pathways for growth worldwide.
