JioHotstar, the newly merged streaming platform combining JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, has officially launched. The new service is expected to become India's largest OTT platform with an estimated 500 million users at launch. JioHotstar combines Bollywood and Hollywood films, regional content, live sports, original web series, and international programming, alongside premium sports broadcasting rights.
At the heart of JioHotstar's offerings is a blend of advanced features, such as multi-angle sports streaming, AI-driven content recommendations, and multi-language support. JioStar CEO Kiran Mani highlighted the platform’s vision to provide accessible premium entertainment to all Indians, emphasizing personalization through AI-driven recommendations and 19 language options.
JioHotstar offers multiple subscription tiers, with prices starting at ₹149 for three months. The service’s Premium tier includes ad-free content and allows streaming on multiple devices. Additionally, the platform is expanding into niche content areas like anime and reality TV, while securing exclusive digital rights to major sporting events, including the IPL, ICC events, and more.
The merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar, following the Viacom18-Star India merger in late 2024, positions JioHotstar as a strong contender in the competitive Indian streaming market.
